Two Sticks And Some String !

This is me, an opinionated, politically progressive Canadian Lace Knitter who's lived and worked in western Canada, and on the east coast of the USA; a multi-skilled person who's been recently re-elected to public office, has a Class One driver's license, a human services professional in direct service, middle and senior management positions, and a MOM!

I'm Going to be a Mother-In-Law !!

I can't believe it's been two months since my last post. Well, actually, I can believe it. We started kitchen renovations on January 21, and the two week job is now in its eighth or ninth week. Oy.

I've taken lots of pictures, and will do a story on that separately.

Two weeks ago, my son returned from his 6-m
onth stint with Princess Cruises. We met him at the airport (he was last through customs, as he was assisting an older woman with her bags). His long-time sweetie Jen was at the airport, too. We were all excited to see him.

He finally burst through the doors and headed straight for ... guess and you'll get the silver star ... JEN! He nearly lifted her off the floor! I was standing there waiting for a little recognition from my ONLY child (who is now 27 years old!). A couple
of guys were seated a little ways off, watching the scene. I looked at them and said "I'm only the mother". We all smiled.

Then he saw me, gave me a big hug and kiss, and then back to Jen. It was another minute or two before he realized Dorne was also there, and ran over to give him a hug.

Life has unfolded in an interesting way in the last two weeks. Eric proposed to Jen, and she said yes. The story is great, and I'll tell it in another post.

The bottom line is this: Jen said yes, they're getting married in August of '08 (give or take a week or two on either side of August), and both families are thrilled.

Ahhhhh ... the "welcome home" kiss!

Dude, you need a shave! Oy.

I'm so happy he's home. I picked him up from the train station in Parksville last Monday, and he spent four days with us. I drove him back to Victoria on Thursday, spent some time with my Mother and the NEW baby in the family; my niece's second child "Garnet", born March 4. This picture is my son holding the less-than-48-hour-old baby. Both of them are cute ;-)

Knitting news: I'm almost finished Niebling's Frosted Flowers, a large doily I'm knitting in a very soft linen thread. It should be finished this week, and then I'll be working on a runner for my mother, another Neibling design, charted (ugh) of course, which means I'll be translating all those silly grunts and groans into understandable abbreviations using letters and numbers I already know how to read!!

That's all the news that's fit to print at this time. Check back in a week or two for the "Engagement Story".
